My job is preparing dwgs for the fabrication of steel components.
In my 40 years of detailing, I've found that many architects fail to acknowledge the often appreciable difference between "nominal" and "actual" sizes of scheduled steel pipe. Apparently, they don't know of the existance of the AISC manual of steel construction.
There's no way that you can center a 1.5" sch.80 pipe on an MC12x10.6 flange for a pleasing appearance.
