Does anyone know if "land-clearing debris" should be factored into the construction waste management credits?
I don't know how it reads in the other rating systems, but the LEED-CS v2.0 reference guide appears to contradict itself on this matter.
The "intent" section for this credit states: "Divert construction, demolition and land-clearing debris from disposal in landfills and incinerators." This would suggest that land-clearing debris SHOULD be factored into the calculations.
However, the "requirements" section states: "Excavated soil and land-clearing debris do not contribute to this credit." This contradicts the intent section. |

The requirement is what's important. You should work to prevent land-clearing debris from going to a landfill, but it would skew the calculation on many projects so it's not included in the calculations. _________________ Joel McKellar, LEED AP
