How well does Acrobat Pro 9 work in 10.6?

I just upgraded from 10.5.x to 10.6.2 last week, and Acrobat Pro 9 seems to work (although I hate Acrobat 9's user interface -- it is really ugly and clunky looking).

At first I thought Acrobat Pro 9 was broken because I couldn't get it to work after setting up an Adobe PDF printer in Print & Fax System Preferences, then I went online and found out that a new option has been added to the print dialog box (Print>PDF>Save As Adobe PDF) that I didn't know about. Using that method, PDF's I seem to be able to create PDF's just fine.

(Also, the native Apple pdf printer seems to work just fine for my needs, too. Its PDF files are slightly larger than the Adobe created ones, but they seem to print equally well.)

regards,
patrick

On a semi-related note, I never used "transparent" objects, layers, etc, since they first appeared in PC7, due to the pixilation of items and layers located below the transparent objects. In torture testing Acrobat 9, I noticed that the pixilation problem seems to have been solved (with both Acrobat 9 pdf's and Apple's native pdf printer). I am using PC8.1.2 and OS10.6.2. My laser printer is awaiting a cartridge, so I haven't yet tested a print directly from PC, but I'd suspect it is fixed, too. I am not sure when this pixilation problem was solved (which version of PC, which version of OS X), but it is good news.

Thanks for the ideas and news Patrick (also nice that to hear tha PC's "transparency" is usable at last). Now, if PC created and updated PDFs from selected sheets automatically--- a lot of effort would be saved. I rarely produce anything these days without saving pdf flles. there is always a folder for each project with pdf sheets (named to list in order) for combining or sending to printers etc.

Meanwhile 3dvia gives 3d model viewing on iPhones.

(Hmm..what about pdf as a "reference file" system?)

I've been using the OS10.6 built in pdf printer since upgrading (used to use Acrobat Pro Cool and seems fine, only issue was when a client was using Acrobat Reader 5 to view my pdf's and objects which had a white fill were reading as black (so text which had a white fill to screen out objects below was blacked out), but after upgrading to Reader 9 this problem was gone.
I believe the pixilation of transparent objects, etc. was solved in the original version of PC8, may have been in an update in version 7-in an event, it was quite a while ago.
I liked how in Acrobat Pro 8 you could assign it as the printer so that hitting the print command would bring up the file name window, paste in a name, hit return and the file was created. With the built in printer there is the added step of mousing down to 'save as pdf'. It seems that Acrobat 9 also requires this step, so the process is now the same, and if the built in pdf printer works well I see no reason to spend $ to buy Acrobat 9. Would you agree, if not, why?

Until a few days ago I was still using Pro 7 for protecting and combining/rearranging PDFs, said PDFs having been originally created by OSX itself.

Acrobat Pro 9 allows slightly more control in how you "protect" your final PDF. I don't know if Pro is still needed to mix and match nowadays tho. Perhaps I just wasted $150 (+/-).

I have not yet experimented to see if there is any significant advantage to using Pro to create PDFs as opposed to OSX built-in capabilities.

The Preview application works well to combine and arrange pdf's. I have not given any thought to protecting the pdfs.
